Sierra Nevada is the most southerly ski resort in Europe, with the bizarre juxtaposition of skiing above 3,000m while seeing the Mediterranean and North African coast on clear days. The snow can be excellent (altitude helps) but conditions are variable. It's popular with Andalusians escaping Granada for a day's skiing.
